DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

Description

NEXT AREA, the new location dedicated to culture in all its forms, opens in the heart of Milan.

The more than one thousand square metres of exhibition space are divided into different areas that follow a simple narrative, suitable for the whole family, always pursuing the goal of eduntainment, i.e. educating by entertaining.

The curatorship primarily analyses the ideas that led to a different technique, considered to be the most disruptive novelty in the evolution process of painting. Painting en plein air to express a precise desire to represent natural light, to capture the pure beauty of the contrasts between light and shadow, with strong, vivid, real colours.

The first introductory room explains to the visitor – with a layout supported by monitors that enhance the movements of the most famous paintings – the current of Impressionism that imprints on the canvas the effects of light that strike the eye even before the brain.

A palette of hues that changes with the seasons, a theme around which the exhibition’s fil rouge unravels

In their search for the luminous moment, the major exponents of Impressionism portrayed the progression of the seasons by painting land, sea, rivers, cliffs, trees, flowers, meadows, which change according to the time of year. Living details that are always different, just like those water lilies that Monet painted over two hundred times looking at the same pond, proving how beautiful and changeable the same thing can be every day.

Each season sees a predominant colour that the Impressionists capture along with the movement. As a result, the image loses definition, the contours are imprecise and changeable and the image is fleeting. A pictorial style that perfectly matches the modern technique of the videomapping, starring in the central hall of the first exhibition at Next Area. Walls and floors come to life, immersing the visitor in a year-long journey through the most significant landscape works of the Impressionists, lulled by the classical music of Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’.

The tour continues with a further, even more technologically immersive room, where people can actively interact with the technology and the projection. Visitors walk on a floor of water lilies, having the ability to move them with the movement of their feet. Next Exhibition also introduces the use of artificial intelligence for the first time in this exhibition, in collaboration with the international start-up MORGHY.AI.

Also included in the admission ticket is the special virtual reality experience, the highlight of the exhibition. Wearing the oculus VR, the visitor can move, walk and act, as if he were in the garden of Giverny: past the bridge over the water lilies, in the background is Monet’s house and then the artist, intent on painting in his studio.

An active experience as it is moving and interactive, as the audience can interact with certain elements of the video.
